Overview
Pulse is a comprehensive, full-stack task management application built to help teams organize, track, and collaborate on projects efficiently. It features a modern, responsive UI with real-time updates and role-based access control.
It solves the problem of scattered team communication and delayed task updates by providing a unified, real-time workspace. It’s built for software development units, remote organizations, project managers, and freelance collaborative teams.
What it does
- Role-based access control — distinct roles (Admin, Member, and more) with specific permissions, for data security and a proper workflow.
- Real-time updates — powered by Socket.io, so changes show up instantly across all connected clients without refreshing.
- Interactive task board — Kanban-styled, drag-and-drop task management.
- Multiple views — switch between Board, List, Table, and Calendar.
- Authentication — secure sign-up and login managed via Firebase.
- Invitations and email notifications — admins can invite peers securely by email, with automated updates for important actions through Nodemailer.
- Team messaging and analytics — messaging over websockets, and Recharts dashboards driven by live backend metrics.

Identity
- React 19 + Vite → Express API — REST
- Express API → React 19 + Vite — Socket.io broadcast
- Express API → Firebase Authentication — Firebase Admin SDK
- Sync
- Async
- Auth
- The server verifies incoming requests using the Firebase Admin SDK.
- Real-time events, such as moving a task to a different column, trigger an immediate Socket.io broadcast to every connected user.
- Pulse pairs an external identity provider (Firebase Authentication) with MongoDB Atlas, which holds persistent task logic, message tracking, and workspace structure.
Challenges
- Real-time state management — synchronizing complex socket events across multiple distributed browsers at once, without introducing duplication loops.
- Dual-database abstraction — linking Firebase identity state into MongoDB’s schema maps reliably.
- Complex UI rendering — handling intense drag-and-drop reordering at the DOM level without sacrificing frame rates.
